Welcome to BetterScreens! Your privacy is a top priority for us. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle your information and, just as importantly, what information we do not collect.

Our core philosophy is to provide powerful features to help you manage your screen time while collecting the minimum amount of data necessary. We are committed to transparency and protecting your privacy.

The Core Principle: Your Data Stays on Your Device
The primary function of BetterScreens is to help you manage your app usage through a locally-run, on-device VPN profile.
We DO NOT see, log, or collect your internet traffic. All network traffic analysis and filtering happens exclusively on your iPhone or iPad.
No data is sent to our servers. Your browsing history, IP address, and app usage data never leave your device as part of this core functionality. We have no access to it.
Information We Collect and Why
To provide and improve our service, we use a few trusted third-party services. We have configured these services in the most privacy-friendly way possible.
- For Handling Subscriptions: RevenueCat
  We use RevenueCat to manage in-app purchases and subscriptions.
  What they collect: RevenueCat processes your purchase history (for example, if you subscribed to "BetterScreens Premium") to validate your subscription and unlock premium features.
  Anonymous ID: We do not provide RevenueCat with your name, email, or any other personal identifiers. RevenueCat assigns your device a random, anonymous identifier. This means your subscription status is not tied to your real-world identity in our system.

- For App Analytics: Mixpanel
  We use Mixpanel to understand how users interact with our app so we can improve the user experience.
  What we collect: We collect anonymous data about actions taken within the BetterScreens app itself. This is linked to the same anonymous identifier used by RevenueCat, not your personal identity.
  What we DO NOT collect: We have disabled Mixpanel's default data collection. We do not collect your location, device type, or other potentially identifying information.
  List of Events: We only track specific, non-personal events to help us make the app better. These include: onboarding_started, onboarding_type, onboarding_survey_completed, paywall_shown, hard_paywall_shown, subscription_started, trial_started, vpn_prompt_shown, vpn_accept, vpn_decline, vpn_creation_skipped, profile_missing_view_shown, profile_reinstall_success, challenge_banner_keep_progress, post_trial_banner_tap_unlock.

- For Advertising Attribution: SKAdNetwork
  We use Apple's SKAdNetwork to measure the effectiveness of our advertising campaigns.
  How it works: This framework is designed by Apple to be privacy-first. It allows us to know if an ad for BetterScreens led to an installation, but it does so without revealing any personal data about you or your device. The data is aggregated and anonymized, so we cannot track individual users.
Data Not Linked to You
For Apple’s App Privacy section on the App Store, we will indicate that the Usage Data (Analytics) and Purchase History we collect are "Not Linked to You." This is because all data is associated with a random, anonymous identifier and not with your personal identity.
Data Security (New/Updated)
The security of your information is important to us. The limited anonymous data we collect is managed by our partners, RevenueCat and Mixpanel, who use industry-standard physical, technical, and administrative security measures to protect it. However, please remember that no method of transmission over the internet or method of electronic storage is 100% secure. While we and our partners strive to use commercially acceptable means to protect your information, we cannot guarantee its absolute security.
Data Retention (New/Updated)
We do not store any of your data on our own servers. The anonymous identifiers and associated event data are retained by our third-party partners, Mixpanel and RevenueCat, for as long as necessary to provide their services and for analytical purposes. For more information on their data retention policies, please consult their respective privacy policies.
International Data Transfers (New/Updated)
Our third-party partners, RevenueCat and Mixpanel, are based in the United States. If you are using our app from outside the United States, please be aware that the anonymous, non-personal data we collect for analytics and subscription management will be transferred to, stored, and processed in the United States. By using BetterScreens, you consent to this transfer, storage, and processing.
Your Privacy Rights (New/Updated)
Your privacy rights are important, but their application depends on the type of data collected. Since we do not collect information that personally identifies you, your rights are applied as follows:
Access, Correction, Deletion: Because all data is anonymous and not linked to you, we have no way of finding and providing you with specific data to access, correct, or delete. Requests related to purchase data or analytics would need to be directed to our third-party partners, though it is unlikely they could fulfill them without an identifier.
Managing Analytics: You can reset the anonymous identifier used for analytics by reinstalling the app.
Depending on your location, you may have specific rights under laws like the GDPR or CCPA. We are compliant with these regulations by design, as our policy is to not collect personal data in the first place.
Children's Privacy
We do not knowingly collect any personally identifiable information from children under the age of 13. If you are a parent or guardian and you believe we have inadvertently collected such information, please contact us so we can promptly address the issue.
Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We will notify you of any significant changes by posting the new policy on this page and updating the "Last Updated" date. You are advised to review this Privacy Policy periodically for any changes.
